Job Title – Air Operations Safety & Regulation LEAD

Reporting directly to the Flight Operations Manager, the Air Operations Safety & Regulation Lead is responsible for managing, coordinating and delivery of all Safety & Regulation activity within the Flight Operations team.

Tasks and Accountabilities

As part of this role you will be responsible for undertaking activities such as: –

  • Manage, coordinate and deliver all Safety & Regulation activity.
  • Assess and deliver Regulation needs analysis.
  • Lead the Air Operations team in Safety and regulatory compliance matters.
  • Form part of the Flight operations Air crew.
  • Support Flight Test deployments as a Manual/External Pilot.
  • Support additional ad-hoc Flight Operations tasks.

Required Skills

Essential:

  • Previous UAV operations experience with a knowledge and understanding of technologies relevant to High Altitude Long Endurance UAVs (HALE UAVs).
  • Ability to lead a team, with a positive and proactive attitude.
  • Experience with working with civil, military or range approval authorities and Aviation Rules and Regulations including international Unmanned Systems Regulations.
  • Understanding of Flight planning, meteorology, system preparation and airspace management.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly even under high pressure situations and a demonstrable ability to make and implement complex risk-based decisions under pressure.
  • Excellent analytical, interpersonal, verbal and written communications skills to be able to work with stakeholders at all levels, both military and civilian.
  • Understanding of Flight planning, meteorology, system preparation and airspace management.
  • Confidence to talk to engage with customers for key stakeholders.
  • Ability to travel and be deployed on projects internationally working under austere conditions.
  • Understanding of engineering test plans and how to conduct them.

Desirable:

  • Private Pilot’s Licence or better or Military flying experience.
  • Significant, documented UAS or R/C flying experience.
  • Qualified to degree level in Engineering, Physics, Electronics, other practical scientific discipline.
  • Experience in uniformed service, or experience working with defence.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and using computer systems.
  • Ability to mentor and train other users.
  • Careful and organised approach to tasks.
  • Reliable in respect of quality and timeliness of deliverable items.
  • Evidence of taking ownership of problems/high level requirements.

Principal Terms and Conditions

  • Post – Permanent.
  • Salary – to be agreed depending on experience.
  • Pension – 10% contribution from the company included.
  • Leave – 25 days plus bank holidays.
  • Working time 37.5 hrs per week.
  • Location – Alton, Hampshire, UK.
  • Start – ASAP.
  • Eligible to participate in BAE Systems Share Incentive Scheme
