Job Title – Systems Engineer

Reports to Lead Systems Engineers

Work as part of the systems engineering team on requirements definition, design, simulation, build and testing of the developmental PHASA-35 UAS.

Tasks and Accountabilities

Outline Job Profile

  • Work with Systems Engineering team in balancing, adapting and delivering the technical scope of the projects
  • Be responsible for elements of the design of UAV systems working under supervision of technical management.
  • Undertake requirements definition, management and conformance verification following the Systems ‘V’ Model approach.
  • Undertake modelling and simulation of UAV systems and sub-systems.
  • Assist with definition and coordination of qualification and acceptance test campaigns for UAV systems in accordance with Prismatic Airworthiness plan and Engineering policies
  • Support analysis and assessment of aircraft functional and post-flight test data
  • Provide impact assessments of change to the design from a systems engineering perspective.

Qualifications / Experience / Interests Required

  • Degree or equivalent experience in Physics, Engineering or related subject
  • 3+ years’ experience in a relevant industry in a Systems Engineering role.
  • Experience of working in a dynamic delivery-focussed team, managing tension between specification and delivery
  • Comprehension and experience working within the engineering life cycle of a product or system.
  • Experience in Modelling and simulation in the Mathworks environment, e.g. Matlab, Simulink etc
  • Experience in Requirements and Acceptance Management

  • Experience of novel R&D programs, ideally with challenging ‘cutting edge’ technology
  • Experience of UAV
  • Experience of modelling and simulation in Python or similar high-level languages
  • Experience in using a requirements management toolset and management of acceptance evidence
  • Experience of working with energy management systems
  • Experience of working with avionics hardware systems
  • Experience of working with flight control and propulsion systems
  • Experience of building vehicles, robots or other complex systems
  • Knowledge of Aerospace Safety standards (ARP4754, DO-178, DO-254)

Principal Terms and Conditions

  • Post – Permanent.
  • Salary – to be agreed depending on experience.
  • Pension – 10% contribution from the company included.
  • Leave – 25 days plus bank holidays.
  • Working time 37.5 hrs per week.
  • Location – Alton, Hampshire, UK.
  • Start – ASAP.
  • Eligible to participate in BAE Systems Share Incentive Scheme
