Job Title – Senior Design Engineer

We are currently looking for a Senior Design Engineer to join Prismatic Ltd. based in Alton. This will be an exciting opportunity to join a well-established, but growing, team working on exciting new Unmanned Air Vehicles.

Tasks and Accountabilities

Outline Job Profile

  • Defining and carry out engineering tasks within your span of responsibility
  • Agreeing your work plan with your line manager and applying the most efficient engineering methods available
  • Discharging tasks to cost and on time to meet technical quality and integrity requirements and business needs
  • Confirming all work is in line with the departmental quality policy and that departmental procedures are followed
  • Help to implement new quality, design and manufacturing processes using exciting industry experience to develop new Technical Standards.
  • Ensuring effective interactions with team, suppliers, and others to promote the best interests of the team, department, and company.
  • Design of composite parts and understanding of manufacturing methods and inspection.

Qualifications / Experience / Interests Required

  • Knowledge of CAD/Design packages including Solidworks/CATIA V5/ NX/ FiberSim would be beneficial.
  • Knowledge of PDM/PLM would be beneficial.
  • Experience of Early Life Cycle design and developing into production assets would be beneficial.
  • Have an Honours Degree in a STEM subject or equivalent professional qualifications in terms of formal education.
  • 5 or more years of relevant industry experience working within an Airframe and/or Design Engineering related disciplines
  • Generation of test plan documentation
  • Evaluation of test plan results and drawing conclusions
  • Generation of assembly documentation/process/drawings
  • Experience of checking CAD/Drawings.
  • Work with 3rd party suppliers to find/ensure manufacturability of components.
  • Ability to manage own workload both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to manage packages of work managing technicians and suppliers to meet programme timescales.
  • Ability to solve problems in a timely manner.
  • Good attention to detail.
  • Good communication skills, both verbally and written
  • Ability to travel (UK and International)

  • Experience of novel R&D programs, ideally with challenging ‘cutting edge’ technology.
  • Experience of large UAV development.
  • Experience of Aircraft Development.
  • Experience of implementing PDM/PLM
  • Experience of defining Technical Standards
  • Proactive Approach to problem solving
  • Ability to resolve engineering conflicts between disciples, systems and capabilities.

Principal Terms and Conditions

  • Post – Permanent.
  • Salary – to be agreed depending on experience.
  • Pension – 10% contribution from the company included.
  • Leave – 25 days plus bank holidays.
  • Working time 37.5 hrs per week.
  • Location – Alton, Hampshire, UK.
  • Start – ASAP.
  • Eligible to participate in BAE Systems Share Incentive Scheme
