PHASA-35 passes structural tests

Prismatic’s solar powered High Altitude, Long Endurance Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (HALE UAV) has passed its latest and most significant milestone by demonstrating that the wing can be built within the tight mass budget and still meet the strength and stiffness requirements  required of any aircraft. Whilst the formal tests of strength and stiffness were carefully controlled with bespoke rigs able to handle the extreme loads required, the team also decided to put its confidence in their design to a more personal test – by standing on the wing section, which weighs less than 2 kg, supported only at the ends of the 1.5m long section.
