Electric Drive Integration Engineer

The Electric Drive Integration Engineer is responsible for integrating electric motors, optimizing efficiency, lightweight design including performance and developing design direction from concept to production.
Responsibilities
- Electric Drive & Motor Integration
- Integrate electric motors and drive systems into aerospace applications.
- Ensure system-level compatibility between motors, controllers, and power electronics.
- Design & Development
- Drive the design of efficient, lightweight electric drive systems from concept through to production.
- Optimise performance, reliability, and efficiency of electric propulsion and actuation systems.
- Support the development of wiring schematics, diagrams, and system documentation.
- Product Lifecycle Management
- Contribute across the full engineering lifecycle: concept, design, analysis, verification, test, and production release.
- Oversee design validation, verification, and compliance with aerospace standards.
- Support the transition of new electric drive technologies into production, including managing release processes.
- Testing & Verification
- Perform analysis and assessment of functional and post-flight test data.
- Define and execute test plans for motors, drives, and power systems.
- Utilise test equipment (oscilloscopes, analysers, probes, etc.) to debug and validate designs.
- Systems & Controls Integration
- Work with microcontrollers and power conversion hardware/software.
- Support control system modelling, development, and implementation where needed.
Collaborative Responsibilities
- Vendor & Subcontractor Management
- Liaise with external suppliers for components, manufacturing, and testing services.
- Ensure integration of supplier systems meets program requirements.
- Cross-Functional Engineering Support
- Collaborate with mechanical, aerospace, and systems engineering teams.
- Provide input on trade studies, technology choices, and design direction.
Aerospace-Specific Responsibilities (Beneficial Skills)
- Contribute expertise to low-volume aerospace manufacturing.
- Support development of control actuation systems using PMBLDC motors.
- Apply aerospace testing and certification processes to electric drive systems.
Requirements
Required:
- Degree or equivalent experience in Physics, Engineering or related subject.
- 5+ years of experience designing, developing, verification of electric drives, motors and power systems.
- 3+ years of experience in launching new products to production including the release process.
- Experience with microcontrollers, power conversion and system integration.
- Ability to generate, read and interpret wiring schematics and diagrams.
- Demonstrated proficiency in driving unit selection and product design ideas.
- Comprehension and experience working within the engineering life cycle of a product or system.
- Support analysis and assessment of aircraft functional test and post-flight test data.
Desirable:
- 3+ years’ experience in aerospace or related low volume manufacturing.
- Experience working with control actuation systems that employ permanent magnet brushless DC motors and other similar technologies.
- Experience with controls system development, modelling, and implementation.
- Competence with test equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analysers, debuggers, current-probes, and test automation.
- Ability and experience managing vendors and subcontractors
