Job Title – Power Systems Engineer

We are currently looking for a Power Systems Engineer to join Prismatic Ltd, based in Alton. This will be an exciting opportunity to join a well-established, but growing, team working on exciting new Unmanned Air Vehicles.

Tasks and Accountabilities

Outline Job Profile

  • Responsible for design and development of HV DC Power Systems <300VDC.
  • Test and evaluation of current and future battery cell technologies.
  • Certification of battery packs to international standards.
  • Design integration of units into complex systems.
  • Test and evaluation of battery management systems and energy generation systems within DC systems.
  • Potential deployment on flight trials to support battery integration and testing in field.
  • Problem solving / fault finding of DC electrical systems.
  • Ability to write and interpret system requirements.
  • Power system modelling in SimScape.

Qualifications / Experience / Interests Required

  • Understanding of DC Power System architecture, preferably within the HALE domain but not essential.
  • Understand methodology of battery charge/discharge characteristics
  • Generation of test plan documentation
  • Evaluation of test plan results and drawing conclusions
  • Generation of assembly documentation/process
  • Work with 3rd party companies to certify products.
  • Work with 3rd party suppliers to find/ensure tools for Battery manufacturing process
  • Have relevant degree level qualification plus 2+ years industry experience with DC power systems or solar array.
  • Ability to manage own workload both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to manage packages of work managing technicians and suppliers to meet programme timescales.
  • Ability to solve problems in timely manners.
  • Good attention to detail.
  • Good communication skills, both verbally and written

Some of the following will also be beneficial

  • Experience of novel R&D programs, ideally with challenging ‘cutting edge’ technology.
  • Experience of large UAV development.
  • Experience of building vehicles, robots or other complex systems.
  • Experience of modelling and simulation in MATLAB, Python or similar high-level languages.

Principal Terms and Conditions

  • Post – Permanent.
  • Salary – to be agreed depending on experience.
  • Pension – 10% contribution from the company included.
  • Leave – 25 days plus bank holidays.
  • Working time 37.5 hrs per week.
  • Location – Alton, Hampshire, UK.
  • Start – ASAP.
  • Eligible to participate in BAE Systems Share Incentive Scheme
